About us
The TryForce Triathlon club’s origins date back to 2005 when a group of YMCA members started chatting during a spin class about riding outdoors and attempting a triathlon. The discussion soon involved one of the Y’s fitness instructors who took it upon himself to loosely organize a small group of members who started to train together, with the goal of completing a triathlon. As more members took notice of the groups activities, interest started to grow, and many decided to join the training. As the group grew in size, one dedicated group member stepped forward and decided to form a club, and thus TryForce was born.
Initially the club was six members strong but it wasn’t long before it had doubled in size and the club organized their first official swim workout time, once a week at the St. Catharines YMCA. Next came the addition of a head coach, and a Brick workout followed shortly after. From this point on the club has never looked back!
Today there are over 100 members who participate in a year round workout schedule. From October to April, workouts are indoors. From May to September workouts move outdoors, throughout the Niagara Peninsula. Club workouts are in a group environment and are structured based on the different levels of abilities and goals of the individual members. Whether the goal is a Try a Triathlon or a full Ironman, or even just to stay fit, there is a workout to meet most needs and schedules.
TryForce is no longer affiliated with the YMCA. TryForce members do not have to belong to the YMCA, although many members are.
The club is 100% not for profit and is supported strictly through volunteers, including NCCP trained triathlon coaches, which cover all three triathlon disciplines, and a 5 member board of directors. Through the efforts of this dedicated group, and together with the support of our corporate sponsors, TryForce as been able to offer its members many benefits typically found in commercially based clubs.
With a great membership base, a sense of community and wellness, and a mission for a healthy lifestyle, we hope to continue to grow and help people accomplish their goals.
